British detectives have uncovered the live online broadcast of a mother in the US sexually assaulting her own child. Skip related content

West Midlands Police discovered that a 30-year-old woman in Maine was using her webcam to broadcast the assault, following an arrest in the UK.

The woman was later arrested and her four children removed from her care.

The train of events began last Thursday:

At 5pm West Midlands police say colleagues on Humberside alerted them to a man who, it is alleged, used the internet to show inappropriate material of children.

By 8pm an 18-year-old man was arrested in Walsall. A number of computer items and equipment were seized for further examination.

The next day additional information was secured which led West Midlands Police to contact the Child Exploitation Online Protection centre and US officials.

By 11pm on Friday evening, a woman was arrested in Mars Hill, Maine. Again, computers and associated hardware and equipment were removed from her property.

Her four children, believed to be aged between 18 months and five, have been taken into protective custody and the woman is being held on $20,000 bail after being charged with gross sexual assault.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave McCrone, of West Midlands Police, said: "Our officers worked through the night on Thursday and Friday to ensure the identification and safety of these children across the other side of the world.

"We work to make people safer, sooner. The very same technology used to commit the crime enables us to work quickly to protect those who may be vulnerable."

A man from Walsall is in custody and has been charged with possession and distribution of abusive images of children.

bitch
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Oh! Someone has discovered the child abuse gene?

Excellent work by the authorities, though. I hope they will become increasingly proficient at hunting down pedophiles and making it too risky for them to utilise the internet for their crimes.

:shifty:

I was agreeing by viewing it along the lines of memetic evolution. There are many people who lack the requisite level of humanity (empathy and nurturing), and who are even actively abusive, usually due to a similar deficit in their own upbringing, and they pass that on in some form to any children they raise ... vicious cycle.

I'm only half reticent about sterilising known abusers. The slippery slope problem and cultural relativism are the ethical sticking points for me.
