There are some pretty mushy laws in Sweden, and so it may well be that if the allegation were true that he tore the condom that it would be considered a sex offense, or something. Until they specify what offense he is supposedly charged with, we can't really evaluate whether he's guilty.

Based on the summaries of the women's statements, I mean, it sounds dubious. The first woman who says he did not wear a condom seems to describe consensual sex in her statement, but she seems pissed off that the sex was the worst she ever had. Then that same woman let him stay in her apartment for another week and associated with him on a daily basis. Does that sound like a woman who had just been raped?

I mean - I'm not saying she wasn't raped - I'm saying that based on her own story as reported in the news (so I'm assuming a lot there, relative to accuracy), it doesn't sound very much like rape.
The larger issue here is rape that results in pregnancy. Not just rape alone. Not only should women have the right to terminate pregnancy (in whatever situation) but even more, urgently and seriously, if it resulted from a crime such as rape. What they're saying is that the woman has to prove that it wasn't consensual then she'll be given an ok to abort. That is so wrong in so many ways. First, who in hell is the court system to control our body to tell us when, where and why we can seek to terminate pregnancy? It's almost like being raped again! In the court! Not to mention that court takes so much time with everything, that child would be born before the trial even began.

The morning after pill should be available over the counter. There are so many unwanted, uncared for children in the world already. Why continue this madness instead of getting educated.

My post was addressing something to do with the Julian Assange extradition matter, actually, and not the pregnancy from rape charges.

With regard to rape and pregnancy, my understanding is that rape does not prevent pregnancy, although significant stress can delay or prevent ovulation, sometimes. I don't think that comes into play very much in rape cases, though, since the hormonal changes that can be induced by stress, as I understand it, generally don't come into play there.

I think women should have the right to terminate a pregnancy, but "in whatever situation" is where I disagree, as do most people. I do not think that a woman should have the right to terminate pregnancy in labor or in the last month out of the 9 (absent some medical reason why the pregnancy has to be terminated, like something is horribly wrong and/or the mother is in danger).

I agree the morning after pill should be available over the counter. Anything to get the pregnancy ended sooner is better. I've seen 12 week ultrasounds, and terminating that seems like a horrible thing. However, preventing pregnancy is ideal, secondarily, the morning after pill, and thirdly a quick and early abortion. Get it done when it is a bunch of cells.

I strongly oppose, though, the idea that viable fetuses ought to be arbitrarily aborted.

And, before folks start coming down on me as if I'm pro-Life, I'll remind everyone that a non-bright-line rule is the most common rule in the western industrialized world, including the United Kingdom. They do not allow abortions for any reason anytime. So, it is not some radical, or right-wing view to think that at some point during the pregnancy there should be some rational basis for needing the abortion before it is terminated -- such as in the third trimester when it might well be born premature.

Not necessarily. The electorate is heavily divided and there is a hardcore element that will vote for their party regardless of what he/she/it does. "I don't much like him, but I'd rather have a _____________ in the office than one of them."
If they are able to actually vote for a guy like akin, without asking them to go to the other side, I still maintain my opinion.

As an eight-year-old, Mary Ellen Wilson was severely abused by her foster parents, Francis and Mary Connolly. Her case of child abuse led to the creation of the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Image dated 1874.

So every time a woman gets knocked up, she should just have the baby? I'm sorry but that's just wrong.

Okay... Paul Ryan really needs to be bitch-slapped into oblivion...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-slan ... DRek%22%7D

So he's anti-choice even in case of rape, because the method of conception is irrelevant. But, he'll make nice with his views and be Romney's lapdog for the sake of winning. His understanding of female anatomy is probably better than Akin's though, so no controversy has come up here yet.

Oh my fucking god I hate every single opinion this man has ever given about anything!
