Well, whatever else one may think about him, he does have the courage of his convictions, which is a lot more than I can say for most other people, most of whom are just moral drifters a la Dante.

No, they don't. I don't need a license to own firearms, it's my right to do so because I live in a free country. I do have a permit to carry a concealed handgun however, which should not be needed but due to quirks in my state's Constitution is required.

Thing is, society can't lock up all the potential nutcases because there would be no one left to labor on behalf of the collective. The best society can do is to allow people to be armed so that they can defend themselves when a potential nutcase turns into an actual nutcase.
