Every intervention will distort the market but left to itself the market would be self-correcting. Those who can't afford to live should be allowed to die in specially designed dying rooms with their fav music and the warmth and even a little time with a lady/man of pleasure, before the fatal injection of heroin and lights out. Like it is now but more humane and being codified less at risk of being a killing room.

I for years used to commute to the city about forty minutes each way. The reason is that cheap welfare housing raised the price of what used to be middle class neighborhoods out of the price range of the middle class. Simple supply and demand, when a chunk is reserved for the poor, the price of what is left goes up.

You may own property but does that doesnt give you the right to determine its value, if someone does something to your neighbours house and reduces your property value surely its tough.

If I own an Apple 3000 and they release and Apple 4000 , your property is now worthless but that hardly gives you a veto on Apples releasing a new product.

Quite simply if you own a house in a rural area and someone builds a tower block with a 1000 people in it your house will go down in value but what capitalist justiication is there for someone to not be allowed to do so (there are local democratic ones)

The very basis of capitalism already depends on the concept of private ownership being legally protected and the legality of profiting from it through rents or interest. The only justification needed from a capitalist view is "I own this and I want it to make me a profit". I've already given other examples of capitalists restricting the freedom of others for their own profit, - it happens all the time and often through changing laws.

In your example, yes it would be tough luck if your rural house drops in value, and if you had a mortgage on it you'd quite likely be fucked. But in reality it's better for the investors to prevent that from happening too much. The person who wants to build their tower block next to your house also wants their own investment protected.

Yes, if you were to relax planning laws it would burst their bubble, but the people that would end up getting hurt most are the ones that actually live in the homes and have nothing else, - unless you first tighten the regulations on profit from private property, prevent foreclosures, cap rents and interest etc.
