7.9M earthquake in Mexico? Can someone verify?

Post by Ronja » Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:41 pm

I just received a text message from the GDACS network, which I routinely follow:

Red alert for a 7.9 M earthquake in Mexico (Coyul). Time: 18:02 UTC, epicenter depth: 10 km, population within 100 km: 1.2 million, tsunami warning: 361 cm.

Can anyone verify that from other sources already? I'm going scouring the Web next.

It’s organic. Make stuff for the internet that matters to you, even if it seems stupid. Do it because it’s good and feels important. Put up more cat pictures. Make more songs. Show your doodles. Give things away and take things that are free." - Maureen J

The same alert on their website (there's a map) http://w3.gdacs.org/reports.asp?ID=115597

Shit. With the red alerts I always hope that it is just another database blurp (the system has sometimes mistakenly sent alerts again, even months later - though last time it happened they sent email saying that they now have that problem fixed).

"In Mexico City, Mayor Marcelo Ebrard sent tweets saying that there was no visible damage..."

Well of course not... it's Mexico City - how could you tell the difference? :?

Oh, come on, Mexico City is great, I loved it there!
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
