School takes all day. When will they be cleaning, again? When they're supposed to be doing homework?

Gingrich is a wealthy man. Or as republicans like to call the wealthy "job creators."

This job creator would FIRE janitors and put kids in their place. And talk about government overreach! Republicans tout small government except when it comes to sexuality and draconian policy.

And think about this. He wants to get rid of unions and put kids to work. Why not? Kids won't organize but they'll learn "to stay all day." Newt wants a workforce that doesn't make demands, AKA, obedient workers.

He says they'll "rise." I suppose that means growing tall enough to reach the cleaning rags in the supply closet. Sure, nothing wrong with honest work, but he's neglecting the reasons why schools are failing. He can blame unions all he wants, but there's an economic discrepancy when it comes to the urban poor vs. the more suburban middle-class school districts. But that's something republicans would rather not tackle because blaming unions is easier.

Newt is right, of course. If you paid the inner city kids to clean up the school, they'd be getting some honest money that they can't get any other way - there are certainly no other jobs for them in Obama's economy. They'd also be more invested in the school itself, which would likely lead to better attitudes about learning.
