Bill Bailey said it best "Jean Michele Jarre is a Fraud "

JMJ is a good composer only if you think David Copperfield is a great magician .

His dad was better. JMJ never wrote anything as good as the Lawrence of Arabia theme, or Lara's theme from Dr Zhivago. :tea:

It's okay, but it's a bit simplistic - I would rather listen to Phillip Glass or John Adams.

One of the easiest ways to compose is to create an ostinato and then to layer new motifs on top (a classic example of an ostinato in popular music is the underying theme in Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise) - it's quite effective, but it sort of gives away the improvised ideas which lead to the piece being written in the first place. I always find it much more satisfying to listen to a piece of music and think "How the hell did they come up with that?" - that usually happens when the improvised themes are tidied up and the harmonic "scaffolding" which created them is removed.

Feel free to start a new thread called "Most annoying and la-di-da post of the day" and deposit this in it. :hehe:

No need to hide your intellectual credentials Dev! I find the modern embarrassment at anyone displaying intellectual expertise and/or ability puzzling and actually alarming. The implicit message is 'keep your head down and dumb and don't show ya smarts!

We should be proud of our smarts! There's plenty here!
