Mayall, fuck me. Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Jimmy Page, Ainsley Dunbar, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, John McVie, god knows how many others. Met him after a concert in Halifax in about 2005 or so, I was literally too awestruck to speak coherently, but I got his and Mick Taylor's autographs on the program. Got it framed.

John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers came to Australia several times. Between the mid 70s and the mid 80s I've been to three of their concerts. The lineup was always different and always great. To my (clouded) memory Peter Green was never among them, though, but Mick Taylor and John McVie played in the last one I went to. They always played in smallish, somewhat run-down venues, two of which have been demolished and replaced by high-rise buildings. One was a kind of converted warehouse in Bondi Junction. It featured a big fish tank in the middle of it and a big bar on one side and was run as a side line of someone who also owned a big plant nursery next door. I got two complimentary backstage passes for that one because I drove a delivery truck for the nursery at the time.

The music was a ripper, but I can't remember anything about the back stage after the concert. My friend scored some top quality hash and in conjunction with some rum and coke I was stoned off my face by then. Could have gotten stoned without smoking anything ourselves just by breathing in what everyone else lit up. There were some cops around, but they just did some routine crowd control on Oxford Street and in the car park. If there were any of them among the crowd, they would have been paid off to do nothing. All New South Wales and Queensland cops were on the take at the time.
So you talk about mobs and the working classes as if they were the question. You've got that eternal idiotic idea that if anarchy came it would come from the poor. Why should it? The poor have been rebels, but they have never been anarchists; they have more interest than anyone else in there being some decent government. The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all. Aristocrats were always anarchists. - G.K. Chesterton

I saw Mayall in the late 70s. I remember only the odd guitar he had, a friend had remarked on it. A 7 string.
