Bach was not averse to indulging in them. Early on he transcribed a whole slew of Vivaldi's works "for practice".
And then there's Wendy Carlos's treatment on Moog. Unfortunately, Deutsche Grammophon (part of UMG since 1999) is rather militant about protecting its copyright, so none of her recordings last more than a week or two on Youtube. I know because I have been threatened with dire consequences if I upload any track of hers for a third time.
Most imitations sound somewhat inadequate. Don Muro's tribute to both Bach and Carlos is pretty good, though.
