Can't you find the stop button? It's in the bottom left corner. Looks like an equal sign. No need to thank me.

I love the sound of harmonicas and mouth organs. Judy's Harmonica Ensemble had me tapping and laughing. Buddy Green's number is a ripper. Seems those things are percussion instruments that are also a dab hand at doing melody. No wonder they go so well with steam locomotives.

They make me all nostalgic about the time train journeys began with chuffchuffs and no motion. The first one had the iron wheels slipping ineffectually on the rails, but each subsequent stroke managed to get increasing grip. A few minutes out of the Hauptbahnhof the chuffchuffs had turned into a steady bellow and it was down with the window and let the breeze hit the face at 130 kilometres an hour on the way to Ratzeburg, München, or wherever. No worries about electricity masts then.

Now I want to catch that train again.

Whoah! That's insane! And not to mention it sounds like polka on speed. I'm going to call that genre polka-core! :D

Man, just scrolling through this thread I see so many eastern folk looking material! :ab: I'll have to wait till I get up to the ex's place in a couple of weeks and use her internet connection to watch them all. Then I'll add some of my favourites.

But in the meantime here's some eastern folk from a group that i've been listening to a bit lately. It's not part of what I call the "eastern orthodox folk ska" genre, but it's eastern european folk - a really interesting specific genre from a specific area (Mostar) in the old Yugoslavia that has Turkish influence. So it blends two of my favourite traditional/folk sounds. This version has a bit more guitar and base thrown in than the album version. I never say no to more guitar and base.. :)

I reckon you'd like Dubioza kolektiv who mash up seriously funky rock, punky ska, and traditional Balkan sounds - all delivered with honesty and a cheeky smirk. I saw them at a festival last year - fabulous musicians and great energy.

I can't stop listening to this song. The rest of their stuff is shit, although they sound like they could bust out an awesome live set, so will have to check some youtube vids of them live. This song is like 3 for 1: 70's heavy psychedelic rock, different time progressions, and fucking sitar, man! (but not enough sitar.. :nono: )

Interesting. I love that shot of the whole crowd jumping up and down in unison. Those guys are proper ska (with some folk sounds thrown in). But it's amazing how well ska matches with what I call the 'Eastern Orthodox' folk beat and instruments.

Those YT 2 audio sites generally only let you do 10 mins max. You could use a browser addon like this to download the vid and then extract the audio with VLC player - erm, apparently.

Haha. Tommy and his brother used to perform at a Paddington (Sydney) pub. They were fantastic. Entry price was the drinks you bought. We made do with smoking spliffs. Apparently, none of the staff had any sense of smell whatsoever.

Tero, the downloadhelper add-on for Firefox works a charm for downloading just about any video. Between that and aTube Catcher there is not much you cannot download, although in both cases you'll need to keep updating the programs. Sites hosting the clips keep implementing changes that disable the downloaders. Then the authors of the downloaders devisea workaround. It's a bit of a cat and mouse game.

Talk in the Guitar Porn thread has turned to jazz just now. By a coincidence I finally caught up with the signature tune yesterday of a program called Jazztrack that Jim McLeod hosted on the ABC Classic network for several centuries in the past millennium. As with all music genres, I like some jazz. This piece is one I like. Different recording, though, but I could download the original one if I wanted to :shifty:  .

All that piano and bass stuff just bring the Charlie Brown thing to my head immediately.
