The beatles were fucking fantastic!

Post by Rum » Fri Mar 29, 2013 9:09 am

I have all their music pretty well on my Iphone. Went for a walk for about an hour and a half with pooches yesterday and had all their albums set to random shuffle. They still sound utterly brilliant. Nothing like them before or since!

They were the right thing for me at that stage in my life - 12 to 16.
Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!

Someone will pan this thread for not being controversial enough.

Not me though. I love the Beatles, especially all the album tracks (not just the famous singles) from the mid-1960s onwards.

Who is better? That's mostly down to personal taste ... and age. A previous generation would have argued that Frank Sinatra sounds utterly brilliant. Nothing like him before or since. Wind back some more, there's Wagner ... Beethoven ... Mozart ... Haydn ... Bach ... Purcell ...

They revolutionised middle of the road saccharin pop music. There were much better musicians and songwriters around.

Out of the people that ever were, almost all of them are dead.
There are way more dead people, and you're all gonna die
and then you're gonna be dead for way longer than you're alive.
Like that's mostly what you're ever gonna be.
You're just dead people that didn't die yet.

Well, they were. And people today do not quite get it what it was to hear it back then. It was competing with really cheezy pop with pat Boone, Fabian et al. Kind of like pop today.

Yeah there was fuck all else to listen to.
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Yes, how many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Yes, how many times must a man look up
Before he can really see the sky?
Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
vs.
Oh yeah, I'll tell you something I think you'll understand When I say that something I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand I want to hold your hand
Oh please say to me You'll let me be your man And please say to me You'll let me hold your hand
You'll let me hold your hand I want to hold your hand
And when I touch you I feel happy inside It's such a feeling that my love I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide
Yeah, you got that something I think you'll understand When I say that something I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand I want to hold your hand
And when I touch you I feel happy inside It's such a feeling that my love I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide
Yeah, you got that something I think you'll understand When I feel that something I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand I want to hold your hand I want to hold your hand
