Cheap Trick!

Post by tattuchu » Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:35 am

Robin has really let himself go, but back in the day he was one of the most beautiful men in rock, if not the most beautiful. And goddamn he could sing.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I never liked them growing up, other than a couple of their popular songs... but I had a secret crush on Robin. :shifty:

Never heard of them. They look like a band I won't like. Afraid to play in case I'm right.

Well then what have you got to lose? You've already made up your mind that you don't like them, so there's no loss if your suspicions are confirmed. But, who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised.

They're Beatle-esque pop/rock. They often sing the kind of songs that make young girls weak in the knees. They might seem kind of silly, but it's all a bit tongue-in-cheek. You can tell when they perform that they have quite a lot of fun and don't take themselves too seriously. Despite this, they are damn good musicians. And the lead singer, Robin Zander, has one of the most powerful voices in rock. And so they transcend their silliness and often enter the sublime.

Which popular songs? Like any other band, there was so much more to be found beyond the hit songs.

Who didn't have a crush on Robin? :hehe: I don't ordinarily go around calling men "beautiful," but I can't think of any other word which describes him more accurately.

Rick Neilson and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick (along with the great Tony Levin) playing with John Lennon.

And another one I like:

Suspicion confirmed. I can't believe that they are exactly what I thought they would be. I guess if you're into Paul Weller and stuff you'd like them. not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

I've no idea who Paul Weller is. I looked him up and if the following vid is any indication, I think I quite like him
I don't really see a similarity with Cheap Trick, though, except that he's a little Beatlesque.

Although the baseline in that song sounds very very familiar. It reminds me a little of the first song I posted, "Downed."
Or maybe this Electric Light Orchestra song:

I just ordered Paul Weller's greatest hits CD :hehe:
Weird how someone so popular in Britain could be completely unknown here :?

Nope. Never. Not until I had just looked up Weller on Wiki, that is. Apparently they were very popular

Just a bit. And better than Weller's solo output IMNSHO. Check out All Mod Cons or Setting Sons. And just watch this...
