From the guy who wrote Pancho & Lefty

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I love the Dixie Chicks!

And Emmylou Harris, and Dolly. And Bonnie Raitt, but she's not really country.
And Alison Krauss, though she might not be considered strictly country, either.

I like Patsy Cline, love Johnny Cash, am fond of Willie Nelson.
I like bluegrass, but I'm not knowledgeable at all about it-- just like to listen to it when it's on.

Hmmm... who else?

...

Some kd lang is country, and I like her music.

I doubt anyone here knows of Charlie Pride--black country singer from the 60's and on. I'm not really a fan of his music but he sang in my grandfather's bar before he made it big.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Sweethearts of the Rodeo are from Manhattan Beach, California.
It was part of my stomping ground as a teenager.

Odd to have country western musicians coming out of a So Cal beach city.

Hey, Elvis did country ...

... but not that Elvis:

He also produced this, IIRC:

Country here, country there, country everywhere:

Geffen sued Neil Young over this record BTW. It was too "country" for their liking. :hehe:

Or the black cowboys or the black farmers. I understand that some racial discrimination on the part of the USDA resulted in a bit of whitening of the rural USA.
