The Greatest Irish Song Ever?
Re: The Greatest Irish Song Ever?
The very first time I heard that song was a few days after I saw the Eurovision Father Ted episode. I can't listen to it without thinking of My Lovely Horse (and thinking about it, this song must've influenced that song).

Popular music? No contest, Old Town by Phil Lynott:
HQ version here:
Of course, if we're going to get nationalistic, then it would have to be one of these two:
Thousands Are Sailing - The Pogues:
... or Nothing But The Same Old Story by Paul Brady. Can't find a good enough version to post.

I really like this songdevogue wrote:

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

The best Pogues song ever...

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Often caught singing it in the shower (well would be if there was anyone there to catch me).
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.
