The first I heard and learned of the Beatles was

on the boy next door's record player ... His older brother was playing along on guitar ... That was six years after the Beatles broke up. I still like that one.

Sorry for not liking boy bands and preferring to listen to man music like the Stones.Rum wrote:You have no taste and you know nothing!Animavore wrote:Pity they didn't break up 50 years ago.

Ah! I do remember that, and the interminable speculations as to what it would take to bring them together again. Then John Lennon was shot dead by a madman, and some wit immediately came up with the answer: "Three more bullets."

Don't we all. And if Chapman had aimed just a little to the left, he would have been considered a hero.Bella Fortuna wrote:I blame Yoko.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

40 years ago it was the 70's.

Re: The Beatles broke up 40 years ago today
I have to wonder what The Beatles would have been like if they hadn't broken up. In the last few albums, I thought they were really hitting their stride. For a band that was disintegrating, they certainly put out some astonishingly good music. Of course, if they hadn't broken up, we wouldn't have gotten the astounding early solo albums of the individual members. These, to me, were much more substantial and satisfying than anything they'd done as a group. Unfortunately, the creative momentum seemed to peter out. And the individual members didn't have the others to knock ideas off of and collaborate with. I get the impression that there was no one else around who would dare tell one of the Fabs that they'd wrote a piece of self-indulgent shite, for instance. Or at least, if for instance Paul was having trouble with the second verse of a song, John wasn't there to fill it in with something wonderful and unexpected.

They probably would've become (more) lame like every other band in the world that ever existed ever.

Most likely they would have done what the Rolling Stones finished up as: a bunch of geriatrics who parody their former selves for the sake of mountains of money.tattuchu wrote:I have to wonder what The Beatles would have been like if they hadn't broken up.
