Re: Best cover songs in the world
I've already posted a few covers in other threads - I'll gather them all together tomorrow, or whenever.
One of my favourites, I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine by Beth Orton:
Here's the original by The Ronettes - a great tune ruined by Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound"

Re: Best cover songs in the world

I've already done several covers by Johnny Cash in the "... listening" thread, but here are a couple more:
I See A Darkness - originally by Will Oldham (aka Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, who sings backing vocals on this version):
The Mercy Seat - originally by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds:
Speaking of Nick Cave, I can't find a video of his version of By The Time I Get To Phoenix, from the 'covers' album Kicking Against The Pricks. But the closing track is an even better cover version IMHO - The Carnival Is Over:
... this song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Carnival_Is_Over) is not to be confused with the Dead Can Dance song of the same name from the early 1990's.
