Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I've already posted a few covers in other threads - I'll gather them all together tomorrow, or whenever. :levi:

One of my favourites, I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine by Beth Orton:

Here's the original by The Ronettes - a great tune ruined by Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound":

I've already done several covers by Johnny Cash in the "... listening" thread, but here are a couple more:

I See A Darkness - originally by Will Oldham (aka Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, who sings backing vocals on this version):

The Mercy Seat - originally by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds:

Speaking of Nick Cave, I can't find a video of his version of By The Time I Get To Phoenix, from the 'covers' album Kicking Against The Pricks. But the closing track is an even better cover version IMHO - The Carnival Is Over:

... this song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Carnival_Is_Over) is not to be confused with the Dead Can Dance song of the same name from the early 1990's.

Completely agree. Sometimes I think it surpasses the original.
