He was so buff in the 80's.

Oh, and I love him.

Not as much as Dmitri.

Even though Dmitri doesn't sing

or play guitar.

Bruce looks good in jeans.

And a trailer.

Enjoyment doesn't require good taste you know.

Try something from one of the following albums:

Greetings from Asbury Park
The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle
Born to Run
Darkness on the Edge of Town
The River.
No. I'm stubborn on this one. "Born in the USA" sealed that coffin.
Well, are you one of the "America sucks" crowd? If you are, then I'd think you'd like that song....
Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up

[chorus:]
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

[chorus]

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said "Son don't you understand"

[chorus]

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
No, I'm not one of the "America sucks" crowd. I just never found anything interesting about the dude's music. I never found it to be creative or insightful. I know that others do and have, but I don't and never have. Maybe his messages are good, but his music is just blah. Blah blah. To me, anyway. :dunno:

New Jersey produces a lot of stars. In addition to Springsteen (Asbury Park), we have the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra, as well as Frankie Valli, Connie Francis, Whitney Houston, The Fugees, Bon Jovi, the Smithereens, Kool and the Gang, George Clinton, Ricky Nelson, Dionne Warwick, Skid Row, the Misfits, Glenn Danzig, My Chemical Romance....
That's a fuck load of shit out of one state!
For 40 years I've lived minutes from the Jersey border but have actually crossed over only maybe 6-8 times... and on most of those occasions I passed through without stopping. :)

And yeah, Springsteen is one of those artists whose popularity I've never understood. There's a small amount of his stuff for which I haven't yet developed an active dislike, and I get that my musical tastes aren't everyone's, but still...
Who needs a signature anyway?

Have you listened to Greetings from Asbury Park or The Wild and the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle? Those are all rather interesting, intensely non-commercial style, and uniquely styled albums. Born to Run was an anthem, and if you were from NJ in the 70s, it spoke to you. Darkness on the Edge of Town was dark and angry.

I'll admit that I've been close-minded about his work due to that one song. Specifically the chorus to that one song. I'm not a 'hate-America' type, but I'm not a flag-waver, either. Anyway, I'll give his stuff a closer listen in a little while. My gf is asleep a few feet away atm. I woke up at 4 a.m. for some reason.

....but...the chorus of Born in the USA is not "flag waving" in the least. It's more "flag burning."

'Tis true. I have revealed my ignorance of the lyrics and the message.

you, my friend, have THE worst taste in music. Bruce is a fucking genius, and one of the best live performers on the planet. What do you like so I can shit all over it.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Lyrics are quite secondary to me, and his sound's nothing special to my ears so, ya... I'm with you on that one Devvy.

Are all things that aren't special to your ears "shit?" I mean, lots of groups that aren't special are at least listenable and o.k., rather than "shit!"

Nah, I wouldn't go along with the shit notion... that's clearly just hyperbole... but the rest of what he says is spot on as far as I'm concerned.

Nuanced enough for ya?
