Who's being silly? I agree with Mr Nutt.

The thread asked for Best Rock Voices. Ignore the glitter suits, platform shoes and Butlin's style popularism and Noddy Holder has one of the greatest voices ever. I saw Slade live a couple of times back in the 80's and he was simply unbelievably good. He could out-shout most rock vocalists without a mike - and never miss a note. A truly awesome talent. I nearly posted a clip myself before MrE beat me to it.

I have to add Freddie Mercury in here too, out of all the rock singers I have heard live, nobody can touch him.

I think the whole band managed to do that, AC/DC nailed it from the start. No fuss just straight up Rock, and it sounded perfect. I think his persona carried well in his voice, and it helped bring a real edge to the music.

Seconded on Joplin. One of the most powerful female voices I've ever heard.

I forgot to add one of my favourites; Phil Mogg.

Hendrix.

Not a particularly great voice, but he put himself in the lyrics.

Nina Hagen. Her voice ranges from alto to soprano, and her classical training shows. Her 1979 album, Unbehagen, is a ripper. Have a listen to Alptraum and Herrmann Hiess Er.

Unfortunately she has become a Christian some years ago.

Yes,

She could be quite the stirrer. At on stage she got a lot of Austrians into a flap, so to speak, when she demonstrated a female masturbation technique live on a television show.
