But the question, was "most important" and IMHO, Motorhead bridged the gap between punk and metal, which influenced a great number of bands.
Which is why I picked them over Maiden as well.

The absence of Manowar from the list of most important bands is, I presume, some kind of oversight?

I love Manowar, but I chose 7 bands that represented different cultural titans in the metal world as well as different values and approaches to heavy metal. Manowar are a very closed off band, it's either love 'em or hate 'em. Not much real cultural influence.

I picked Metallica because although I hate the lot of them I actually love the S&M album more than most other albums I've ever heard.

It's a great album, no doubt. But do you think that Metallica are the most important band for heavy metal culturally and historically?

I'm going to have to admit to my ignorance here, I'm not a devout Metal fan. I listen to anything that I like and rarely bother to find out the background to it. I simply don't know enough about the histories of the bands or genre to say which ones are important. I picked Metallica because I listen to them the most out of the options given but I love Iron Maiden too :dono: again, that's my preference of taste and not a matter of musical importance.

Sorry FS

No problem, just the fact that you prefer them counts as influence. Thanks for taking the survey, it's really helping me out.
