I was reminded of this brilliant version by FrigidSymphony's post above. There is a bit of a story behind it...
Back in 1999, Rolling Stone magazine asked a whole list of celebrities to list their "Top 10 songs of the last millennium." Most went for the usual rock standards, a few digging back into the earlier decades of the 20th century, but RT took them at their word and came up with a list of music from the last 1,000 years, including plainsong, madrigals, Gilbert & Sullivan, Victorian music hall numbers and... this! Rolling Stone decided not to bother using his list in their special millennium edition and so, pissed off with them, Thompson decided to record the songs and tour with the set. The result was the "1,000 years of Popular Music" tour and album, from which this is taken.
