NY Times
By Shaila Dewan and Kay Nolan
Jan. 4, 2021
A pharmacist who was arrested on charges that he intentionally sabotaged more than 500 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine at a Wisconsin hospital was “an admitted conspiracy theorist” who believed the vaccine could harm people and “change their DNA,” according to the police in Grafton, Wis., where the man was employed.

The police said Steven Brandenburg, 46, who worked the night shift at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wis., had twice removed a box of vials of the Moderna vaccine from the refrigerator for periods of 12 hours, rendering them “useless.”

“Brandenburg admitted to doing this intentionally, knowing that it would diminish the effects of the vaccine,” the police said.

Nah, I'm sorted.

Down to maybe 1500 rounds of 5.56, so I'm not doing any shooting. Got a shitton of 9mm ad 12 gauge, though. When TSHTF I'll loot the dead.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Down to only 1500 eh? That seems like a lot. I heard a couple reports recently of people getting arrested and the cops talk about them having 200 or so bullets in their house as if it's enough to take out the US government with. It doesn't seem like a huge amount to have if they're firing at targets. Maybe they got them on sale? It's probably like when people get arrested with a half an ounce of pot and cops make out like they're a kingpin and say the street value was hundreds of dollars. I used to burn through that in a week. People aren't getting arrested for half an ounce anymore here. 8-)

What a great system.

Her son missed remote school – so police showed up with a $439 fine
Punitive truancy policies mean US families may face fines, or even prosecution. A health crisis, recession and bad internet can make remote learning impossible

Attending school at a fast-food spot: 12m US students lack internet
The teens who clean homes during Zoom classes
This series was reported by The74Million.org, a non-profit education news site, in partnership with the Guardian

It was the Monday morning before Thanksgiving when a police officer showed up on Tracie Higgins’s doorstep and handed a $439 fine to her teenage son for missing too many days of remote school during the pandemic.

But the bulk of her son Mark’s repeated absences, the Wisconsin mother protested, were the result of faulty school technology, including a Chromebook that wouldn’t charge. Debra Pratt, also of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, faced a similar situation this school year with her son Jason, who was fined for racking up 28 absences that the school district marked as unexcused – including the same day in late September that he tested positive for Covid-19.

“I think it’s ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous, especially during a pandemic when there’s just too many other factors that are playing into this,” said Pratt. Like many children nationwide, she said that Jason struggled to learn remotely. He recovered from the virus after experiencing mild symptoms, but the school disruptions have taken a toll on him both emotionally and academically.

Similar feuds between frustrated parents and school administrators are playing out across the country as the pandemic’s academic disruptions reach the one-year mark. States continue to enforce laws that require families to send their children to school or face steep punishments for unexcused absences, including fines, community service and, in some states, arrests. These “truancy” rules have exacerbated the pandemic-induced challenges confronting many households, from economic instability and mental health crises to a lack of adequate internet access. It’s often these very hardships, school attendance experts say, that force students to miss school in the first place.

The result is a growing concern among policymakers that pandemic-era absences are funneling children into the juvenile justice system and pushing parents into contentious interactions with child protective services.
Start them young on the wrong path.

A shooter at a Colorado supermarket has killed 10 people, including a police officer, and a suspect was in custody, authorities said.

Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold announced the death toll at a news conference on Tuesday AEDT, fighting back tears.

The suspect was getting medical treatment and there was no further threat to the public, authorities said. Officers had escorted a shirtless man with blood running down his leg out of the store in handcuffs but authorities would not say if he was the suspect.

The officer who was killed was Eric Talley, 51, who had been with Boulder police since 2010, Herold said.

Victims’ families were still being notified so their names weren’t released, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said.

“This is a tragedy and a nightmare for Boulder County, and in response, we have cooperation and assistance from local, state and federal authorities,” Dougherty said.

Yamaguchi said police were still investigating and didn’t have details on a motive for the shooting at the King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, about 40 kilometres north-west of Denver and home to the University of Colorado.
