Well, yes, and very likely in many other western style societies too. "Only in America" ought not be taken literally. The expression is merely meant to point to the fact that though the USA is chockablock with personable and nice (do look up the etymology of "nice" ) folk, the nation lacks any culture other than what can be found in a Petri dish and that the expression "US civilisation" is an oxymoron. It is regrettable that so many other nations are trying to emulate that.

I am planning to take the future grand kids to Disneyland. More homeless people around it, but fewer alligators and guns around it than Disney World. And since alligators eat kids inside it, you would need the gun!

Plus Orlando has all those other parks so you have to go with the same kids as teens. Not for me!

The only barriers imposed would be standard mental health and background checks — the same ones all military enlistees are required to undergo. Do you have a criminal record? An "adverse disposition" (such as, say, a history of domestic violence)? Unfortunately, you wouldn't be eligible to serve — and as a result, not eligible to carry a weapon. The proposal would keep the lower age limit of 18 for enlistment too; if you're not allowed to sign contracts or vote, you wouldn't be allowed to serve (or own a gun), at least not without parental consent.
