Everyone can see it, but for some reason people keep voting for more of the same.
It's not like the Dems had ever done much to really change things, and the overreligious climate makes people fatalistic.
That's the thing. Our electoral system has two locked-in parties that preserve the status quo in many areas. Many people who don't vote say it's because there's nothing in it for them.

My heart goes out to those... I make it a duty to vote, but I'd swear I've not cast a significant vote since at least 2002... when I don't vote for people I just KNOW will lose, but do so anyway, I cast null ballots.

We're a corporatocracy, and both GOP and Dems suck corporate dick for a living. The chance of a viable third party is vanishingly small.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

And I thought John Wayne Gacy and Stephen King had set the standard for frightening clowns...

Possible on local level. They are all such small fish they would end up sucking the same dick daily. So the mayor just takes his cut and plays golf instead.
It will get more popular to run as one or the other and then move on to independent.

The biggest corporate dick suckers are state level and federal lawmakers though... campaigning takes A WHOLE BIG LOT of green, and let's face it, they haven't even settled in office after one ballot that they are already campaigning for the next.

It's worse than that. We only have two choices and sometimes second place wins. Democracy, my ass.

You've concisely stated why individual liberty and limited government is more important than democracy.

The perils of democracy have been proclaimed since Plato's time Forty Two, but unless you find a way to bring back the Articles of Confederation, I don't see how our system is conducive to limited government. Can you give me any reason to think that "individual liberty and limited government" is more than a libertarian beau ideal, as out of reach as long forgotten Fredonia?

American's have no idea what democracy is. Their constitution was not designed for it. It was for a divided community. An adversarial system where the strongest won.
