Armed Robber Regretfully Discovers That Delivery Driver Was Carrying More Than Just Pizza – He Also Didn’t Realize It Would Be His Last Crime
Oct. 23, 2013 3:00pm Jason Howerton

A pizza delivery driver is believed to have defended his life with a firearm after an armed man attempted to rob him on Monday night.

Witness James Wethers told KNXV-TV that he heard three gunshots at around 11 p.m. Monday night. When the looked outside, he saw the “freaked out” pizza delivery and another man face down in a driveway across from his home in Redford, Mich.

“He just said he was robbed. The guy put a gun up to his head and he had to shoot the guy,” he said. “He was freaked out…he didn’t know what to do.”

Police identified the suspected robber as 20-year-old Tajuan Boyd, but released very little information about the incident. Boyd was reportedly pronounced dead at a Michigan hospital later that night.

“After the shooting, witnesses say they saw a possible accomplice speeding away from the scene,” according to KNXV-TV.

An active investigation is currently underway, led by detectives from the Detroit suburb’s police department.

How the hell do you accidentally shoot yourself in the chest with a rifle?

By being extraordinarily careless...or not accidentally.

Smack gun buttstock on ground as you negligently lean over the muzzle and bingo, you're dead.

Safety rule number one: All guns are loaded at all times, especially when they're not.
Safety rule number two: Never allow the muzzle of your firearm to point at anything you are not willing to destroy.

Bumping the buttstock on the ground seems very iffy to me. If they hadn't trained that kid - or had him trained by the 4H or somebody - in firearm safety by the time he was allowed to be alone with a firearm, then I blame the parents.

Clamps, string, pulleys...

You simply need to accidentally put them and the loaded gun together...

It can happen. I've seem it demonstrated many years ago with an old Lee Enfield.
...Granted, that's an old (and therefore probably somewhat worn) gun.

It's also possible that he put it on the ground and caught the trigger on something or other as he picked it up, I suppose. It's perhaps unlikely, but unlikely shit happens sometimes. :dunno:

Yeah, maybe with older models it (drop-firing) could happen more easily, especially if the internal mechanisms were worn, as you say, and you already had it cocked. And if you already had it cocked and snagged the trigger on something while picking it up. But it just seems so freakishly unlikely that someone would pick up a dropped rifle in a way that the muzzle is pointing towards their chest. Seems you'd have to be pretty much devoid of any common sense.

My guess is the kid was poorly trained with gnu handling and was trying to clear vegetation with the weapon, or some such wankery. There are some pretty dim kids out there - not to mention equally dim parents (the two often go together) that don't ensure they know what they are doing. And what the fuck were the parents doing letting a child wander off by himself in the woods anyway? :nono:

I started hunting on my own when I was about 10~12. Somehow managed to never shoot anybody*, including myself.

I once made a bad knot which came undone while lowering my rifle from a deer stand and it fell 10+ feet and landed square on the butt of the stock with the muzzle pointed straight up at me. I was high at the time.

Which means that you avoided the just and reasonable consequences of your own stupidity by virtue of the careful attention to design and safety of the manufacturer of your rifle. You should send them a thank-you note.
