Tritium sight

Post by Jason » Sat Jun 08, 2013 8:42 pm

I'm looking for a tritium sight package for my Remington 1100 (not the tactical version - has a vented rib barrel) because I hate the forward bead sight. I want something that'll give me better target acquisition. Any suggestions? (preferably without having to drill and tap the receiver)

Eh? What do you mean?

This is in the gun forum. I don't get what you mean.

Um.. ok?

I thought it'd be ok to ask for some advice in the gun forum regarding some gun related stuff, but apparently it's somehow 'turning [rationalia] to shit'. That does not compute.

Rum, just switch the gun club off...

Actually, this sort of post is only a harmless discussion of technical gun matters, which even I find mildly interesting. It's not a rant about how Obama is draining the precious bodily fluids of all NRA members...

Tritium is radioactive, Faku. Don't lick your new gun sight... ;)

Won't help unless you do a lot of skeet shooting at night...

Try a holographic or red-dot sight instead, or just a fluorescent plastic front bead if you're having trouble seeing the brass bead.

The bead sight is the best for skeet, trap, clays and bird shooting. Tactically, not so much but then you use shotguns at short range anyway and you should be able to instinct-shoot with some practice.

There are top-mount picatinny rail setups that consist of a u-shaped metal sleeve that drops over the receiver and is held in place by extended push-pins that work well. You don't have to change the firearm or drill it.

Not to worry, it's encapsulated. You could eat it and not be harmed. I can't even get my AN/VDR-2 to perk up when I hold the detector close to the tritium sights on my pistol.

I've seen the receiver mount type - they're just as you describe. The two pins that hold the trigger assembly in hold the rail. The problem is the bead is dull steel and not that great in low light in, say, moderately dense forest when I'm hunting partridge or quail. I haven't missed yet, but still. Also tritium just looks cool. :teef:

Seth is right, tritium is just for night shooting. I have them on a couple of my pistols. They are useless for daytime.

I'd suggest a fiber optic sight that will soak up sun light and "glow" really bright in the day. There's many colors/types.

Just an arrogant response? Not surprising.

Seriously though. Leave and never come back.
