So, what about when your firearms are locked up in a gun safe?

The conclusion is derived from statistical analyses performed with a control group pairing of 1:1, not anecdotes, conjectures, or hypothetical situations.

Thems the cards.

Well that doesn't really answer my question.

All my guns are locked in a large safe of which I only know the combination to.

So, how can someone get at my guns to murder me?

You could email the authors and ask them what data they had gained on that.

Wouldn't that be something obvious to include in the research?

No. It is not common to publish your full data in an abstract.

The full article is there. And no. They don't take gun safes into consideration whatsoever, which is pretty fucking stupid.

Bottom line of the article is, someone is going to murder you with your own gun.

Too bad that's easily solved with a safe.

More realistically, statistically that is an event which happens enough to be a factor in the US obscenely high rate of murder via hand gun...

They probably cannot.

My congratulations. Putting guns into such a safe is very sensible. Well done.

It would still be a lot better for the USA as a whole if hand guns were simply not out there. You may be relatively secure from "own gun " murder, but lots of other people are not.

No it would not. Owning a pistol is a right in my country guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment and validated by the supreme court.

Perhaps they should just not be stupid? Hmm?

"Right" or not. I'm still going to defend myself. You never know when a wacko like those in London might decide to prey on you.

It seems impossible to get past the protective layer of 'stupid' with some people. Let me repeat.

As the NEJM reference proves, having a hand gun increases your risk of being murdered by 2 to 4 times. This makes owning a hand gun for "self defence" into an act of stupidity, since it increases rather than reduces the risk of being murdered.
