Two shirtless fatmen shoot another man dead over a trash dispute. Is this the most American thing that's ever happened?

That's some weapons-grade redneckery right there.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Some news from my hometown police department.
GUNSHOT DETECTION SYSTEM - FIREFLY

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has been provided a unique opportunity to assist in our efforts to combat violent crime in our community. In partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Department of Defense, the Colorado Springs Police Department is testing a pilot gunshot detection system. Colorado Springs would be the first municipality to utilize this specific technology and equipment which was developed for urban use. This mobile system will allow officers a faster response time to acts of gun violence. As a result of this partnership, the City of Colorado Springs does not incur any expenses related to this investigative tool.

The gunshot detection system uses a network of acoustic sensors to detect when a gun is fired and then quickly pinpoints the location of the gunfire before notifying the CSPD. By notifying police with this precise information, the system helps to speed police response, has the potential to save lives by quickly directing first responders to potential victims, increases the likelihood of weapon-related arrests, and enhances neighborhood safety. While this gunshot detection system is effective, the CSPD still encourages the community to report sounds of gunfire.
People are reacting of course.
U.S. News & World Report: Colorado Springs second-best place to live

Colorado Springs is the No. 2 “Best Place to Live” in America, according to the 2018 rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. The quality of life and the present job market boosted the city into the top two, with Austin, Texas taking the top spot.
Makes you wonder what's going on in Austin, doesn't it? ;)

The other desirable places are running out of room, like Seattle and California cities. Expensive. Austin is still in the middle of a lot of useless land, plenty of room to build houses. And Austin is one of the few places in Texas where. Liberals have a small majority.

Hodie's in Dalhart has some mighty good brisket. I try to time my trips through the panhandle to roll into Dalhart around lunch time.

I just looked up Dalhart, TX, looks like a nice little town. Now, if they just had navigable river access to the Gulf.

Who needs teeth when you can drink crackers through a straw?

Texas prisons often deny dentures to inmates with no teeth

America's super rich: six things to know

Is America an oligarchy?

That was the conclusion of a 2014 study by two prominent US political scientists, who argued that the influence of economic elites and big business far outstrips that of ordinary citizens. In their view, America is less a bastion of representative democracy than a nation trammeled by the desires of the hyper-wealthy.

Others have suggested that their vision is too bleak. But the outsize economic, social and political clout of the super-wealthy in America is beyond debate - and ripe for scrutiny. That’s why we’ve launched our newest series, Big Money.

Radical inequality

The three richest people in the US - Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet - own more than the bottom half of the country combined.

The wealth of nations

The combined wealth of America's 400 billionaires came to $2.7tr in 2017, which is more than the entire GDP of Italy ($1.8tr) or France ($2.5tr).

And they wield political power

The super-rich have supersized political influence. The Koch brothers have said they invested about $250m in the 2016 election and have promised $400m for the 2018 midterms. Michael Bloomberg spent about $23m on Democrats in 2016, and is planning to spend $80m in 2018.

It's not like the Dems had ever done much to really change things, and the overreligious climate makes people fatalistic.
