For the daily gun satire:
International disaster, gonna be a blaster
Gonna rearrange our lives
International disaster, send for the master
Don't wait to see the white of his eyes
International disaster, international disaster
Price of silver droppin' so do yer Christmas shopping
Before you lose the chance to score (Pembroke)

Not if whomever it is going nuts with a gun shoots you in the head before you can call the police, or before the police arrive after you've called them.

As I said, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Potentially useful backup weapons, but pretty useless beyond oh, three feet. Unless you're Thor and are alleging that you can deflect bullets with your hammer effectively.

Good, good...you're learning. The problem with point defense is that modern artillery can pretty much blow the crap out of anything. Better off going mobile and learning camouflage techniques.

Good thing he no longer plays baseball
Jose Canseco accidentally shoots off finger while cleaning his gun
According to a Las Vegas Metro Police spokesman, LVMPD officers and medical personnel arrived at Canseco and Leila Knight’s home shortly after Knight called 911. 'It was determined that no crime occurred and that it was an accident.'

Therein lies the issue - it's all too easy for stupids to get guns.

And so your logic says that the appropriate rectification for this "problem" is to deny everyone guns? :fp:

No, I would imagine his response would be that there is an evident need for a much more rigorous screening process. Opposed by most gun nutters, of course - can't interfere with the liberties of gun-buying psychopaths...

I've been known to some damage to my fingers with scissors, dinner knives, even staplers. But none of those are lethal weapons, not unless you really try hard.

I have a plan. We make the gun enthusiasts buy insurance. The more people you kill by accident, the more you pay insurance. After shooting 5, you need to pay a 1 million one time fee. Then you start again. Or give up the gun.

So let's see...one careless former baseball player shoots his own finger off and you think this proves a need for a much more rigorous screening process? What about the other 200 million people who own guns who did NOT shoot their fingers off?

That's very much like saying that because one Atheist makes a logical blunder this justifies giving all Atheists prefrontal lobotomies in order to avoid such blunders in the future.

In other words, it's idiocy, as is your assertion.

Do you understand the concept of insurance? You insure yourself against perils that you feel threaten your physical or economic safety. It's not the responsibility of the rest of the planet's population to insure you against something that might happen to you, that's your problem. That's what lawsuits are for. If someone commits a tort against you, you get to sue him for damages. But until someone commits a tortious act against you, you have no reasonable expectation that they will indemnify you and every other person on the planet against their potential bad acts.

Tell you what, I'll agree that after you negligently or carelessly kill someone you should have to pay compensation and be punished for that wrongful action...oh, wait, that's how it works already. Never mind.
