Someone like these folks:
Brave neighbors are hailed as heroes for saving an elderly man's life by pointing their guns at his attacker
Karen Duncan was walking up her friends's driveway in Lawrenceville on Monday afternoon when she heard an elderly man cry out for help
She saw an elderly gentleman laying on the ground with a younger man on top of him with a knife
Duncan grabbed her purse with her gun inside and pointed it at the attacker saying: 'I'm getting ready to shoot you'
Her friend, Ron Childress, a former law enforcement officer, also showed up as back-up. He too pointed his gun at the man. Duncan then called 911.
The knife attacker looked stunned. He quickly stopped what he was doing and threw the knife away.
The brave pair said that without their intervention the attacker would have likely stabbed the elderly gentlemen

Two Georgia residents are being hailed as heroes after they saved an elderly neighbor's life when they heard him screaming for help.
Karen Duncan was walking up her friends's driveway in Lawrenceville on Monday afternoon when she heard an elderly man's desperate cries for help.
She told Fox 5: ' Help, he is trying to kill me, help me, help me.'

Duncan saw an elderly gentleman laying on the ground with a younger man on top of him with a knife. There was blood and 'this big old knife.'
Her friend Ron Childress describes how he saw Duncan run towards his house and says he instinctively knew something was wrong.
Childress threw open the door and was horrified to hear the elderly man crying out for help.

That's when they both sprung into action.
Duncan grabbed her purse with her gun inside and ran outside. She pointed the weapon at the attacker telling him: 'I'm getting ready to shoot you.'
She says the knife attacker looked stunned and quickly stopped what he was doing. He threw the knife away.
Duncan's friend, Childress, a former law enforcement officer, also showed up as back-up. He too pointed his gun at the man. Duncan then called 911.

Childress told Fox: 'I said [to the knifeman] put your arms out, put your legs out and stay right where you are, do not move.
The brave pair said that without their intervention the attacker would have likely stabbed the elderly gentlemen.
No other information about the knifeman - such as name or age - has been released by police.
Childress said: 'You cannot protect everybody, police can't do it, they're good after the fact, but they're no good to you when it happens generally.
'They're not going to be there so you need to be ready to protect yourself and others because what happened yesterday is a perfect example of how a citizen can protect other citizens.'

There was a similar case here just recently, but without the gun...Seth wrote:She didn't shoot the shoplifters, she shot the tire of their car, which is a perfectly reasonable method of apprehending a criminal trying to escape in a car if the circumstances make it safe (for others) to do so, and although I don't know about Michigan, in Colorado a citizen has the right to use "reasonable and appropriate physical force" to apprehend a person who has committed a crime in their presence, which includes both felonies and misdemeanors. The police do it all the time. The only real question is whether or not the specific circumstances actually placed others at risk, which is not axiomatically true. If she knew her target, knew what was beyond her target and knew that her round would not endanger others, then she committed no crime.Tero wrote:Michigan Woman unaware that shoplifters making a getaway did not pose a threat to her, requiring her to shoot
http://www.rawstory.com/2015/12/michiga ... ody-again/
Now, was it prudent of her to do so? No, because in this day and age there are too many radical anti-gun prosecutors and judges who are willing to call anything involving a firearm "too dangerous" to be permitted, which is not what the law says.
But she plead "no contest" and thus forfeited her right to be heard by a jury because, I'm quite certain, the prosecutor threatened her with unwarranted felony charges and threatened to jail her for many years in order to coerce her into this plea bargain, something that should be flatly forbidden (which is to say plea bargains). You either committed a crime or you did not, and plea bargaining is merely a convenience for prosecutors to clear their dockets and claim "wins" (as in this case) when they have cases that are likely to lose at trial.
One should ALWAYS opt for a trial, not a plea bargain. If you have the law on your side, go before a judge. If you have reason on your side, go before a jury.

Some tradesmen saw a guy steal a colleague's car outside their work place. They gave chase (the stolen car collided with a couple of other cars during the chase), forced it of the road where it rolled; because of the collisions and the roll, the car was in quite a mess. The guy inside wasn't injured, but the chasers prevented him leaving until the police arrived. The guy was on ice, and has been arrested and charged; police are considering charges against the chasers (possibly just traffic offences). The bloke who owned the car might be pissed of with the chasers, too; if they hadn't intervened, the car may have been abandoned somewhere undamaged...

Except for the 2.5 million times a year they are, of course. Oh, and the 41 percent of the time that they are used to stop mass shootings. Actually, guns are used 88 percent of the time to end mass shootings, if one counts the shooter committing suicide after he's done killing, which saves everyone a lot of time, trouble and money.Tero wrote:Guns bad and useless for protection

So no, guns are not in the least bit useless for protection.

There are no "NRA numbers." There are only well-researched, peer reviewed numbers from respected researchers cite by the NRA, and everyone else of honest intent, which excludes you.Tero wrote:70 000

Robbery Suspect Tries to Hold Up Group of Texans With Toy Gun, Quickly Learns They Carry Real Ones

A robbery suspect with an aerosol gun was shot several times with a real gun after he tried to hold up a group of coworkers in Texas early Sunday.

Police say four people were leaving work at a Houston nightclub when three men pulled up in a white car, two of the men with guns drawn. But the robbery suspects learned the hard way that Texans pack real heat after one of the four would-be victims reached into his car, pulled a gun and began shooting.
“He said, ‘Give me your money.’ I don’t carry cash so I gave him my card and my ID. As soon as he slapped out of my hand, my brother stepped out of the car, [shot] them both twice in the chest, the guy fell to the ground, I ran to him, kicked him in his face, grabbed his gun and it turned out to be a fake gun,” one of the victims told KTRK-TV.
“It wasn’t even a real gun,” the victim added.
One suspect was shot several times, leaving him in critical condition, while another suspect managed to escape with the third suspect, who had been waiting in a getaway car. Police said it’s possible that one of the suspects who got away was also shot.
Police recovered a toy gun from the scene and said it belonged to the suspect who did not get away and who is now in critical condition. It’s possible that one of the two other suspects had a real gun, but police could not say for sure.
Police said after talking with the group of employees that the worker who pulled the trigger was acting in self-defense.

Millions of unaccounted guns trickling down to criminals.
PORT ORCHARD — A man who pointed a gun at a Washington State Patrol trooper trying to pull him over for texting while driving on Highway 16 in May was sentenced last week to 11 years in prison.
Timothy Robert Hall, 27, had also attempted to outrun pursuing troopers May 12 before crashing in a ditch off Belfair Valley Road and running away on foot.
Hall has an extensive history of felony convictions for possession of drugs and of stolen property, according to court documents, which prohibit from him possessing firearms.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, attempting to elude a police vehicle, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of meth. Kitsap Superior Court Judge Sally Olsen sentenced Hall on Dec. 9.
