Yes, it was out of line, and I apologise to all forum members for posting those rash words. My mistake was to give in to the temptation to heed something Seth has asserted more than once: If it's true, it's not an insult. Now I feel a little embarrassed for having succumbed to this temptation, particularly so, because I don't even agree with it.

So, in order to make amends and demonstrate my contrition I'll liken Seth to someone else now. No, not Yosemite Sam, but coming from the same stable...





The comparison has its limits, though. For instance, Seth does not share this characteristic with Daffy Duck at all:

The main problem with all of the featured Preppers is that they are generally prepping for some specific disaster they fear is on the horizon. Actual preparedness (which even FEMA recommends and as opposed to "Prepping") is about training and equipping to survive ANY sort of natural or man-made disaster, of any magnitude, at any time. Basic principles of survival combined with adequate training in many disciplines of emergency response to critical incidents combined with rational acquisition of necessary equipment and supplies is what preparedness is all about.

FEMA has been encouraging people to prepare for 72 hours minimum without outside assistance for decades. Preparedness advocates like me simply take those recommendations to a higher level that allows for longer survival periods, more people being cared for, and anticipates hazards that the vast majority of people would not be able to adequately and effectively respond to anyway because of ignorance and lack of skills.
