Yes, it was out of line, and I apologise to all forum members for posting those rash words. My mistake was to give in to the temptation to heed something Seth has asserted more than once: If it's true, it's not an insult. Now I feel a little embarrassed for having succumbed to this temptation, particularly so, because I don't even agree with it.

So, in order to make amends and demonstrate my contrition I'll liken Seth to someone else now. No, not Yosemite Sam, but coming from the same stable...

The comparison has its limits, though. For instance, Seth does not share this characteristic with Daffy Duck at all:

Huh?? That's you, champ. You are the serial reporter here. I haven't ever reported anyone for a personal attack, as far as I can recall. I probably reported Coito for being a cockhead at some point, but not because he personally attacked me.
I didn't say you reported anything, I said you freak out, usually manifested as a series of blatant personal attacks of the worst sort...like what got you banned from RS.

I agree. I get a huge laugh out of that show. The first rule of Prepping is...don't talk about your Prepping.

The main problem with all of the featured Preppers is that they are generally prepping for some specific disaster they fear is on the horizon. Actual preparedness (which even FEMA recommends and as opposed to "Prepping") is about training and equipping to survive ANY sort of natural or man-made disaster, of any magnitude, at any time. Basic principles of survival combined with adequate training in many disciplines of emergency response to critical incidents combined with rational acquisition of necessary equipment and supplies is what preparedness is all about.

FEMA has been encouraging people to prepare for 72 hours minimum without outside assistance for decades. Preparedness advocates like me simply take those recommendations to a higher level that allows for longer survival periods, more people being cared for, and anticipates hazards that the vast majority of people would not be able to adequately and effectively respond to anyway because of ignorance and lack of skills.

So... if x guns can help you last 72 hours, clearly all you need is 100x guns and you can last 7200 hours - longer if you can reload quick!

Er, that sort of "reasoning" is why in a disaster crisis you are going to die and I'm going to survive.

Bye-bye.

It's probably true that most people in western countries would benefit from increasing their preparedness for temporary shortages and natural disasters; batteries, candles, first aid stuff, bottled water, some basic food for example. However, beyond a certain point, it becomes a ludicrous form of paranoid hoarding...

I got banned from RS for sock puppetting. Wrong again, Seth. Don't you get tired of it?

And I don't freak out, I just hit back harder. I'm under perfect control at all times. Hence why I don't complain any time I get suspended for personally attacking anyone.

Until it isn't. Ask the people who died during Katrina...oh, wait...never mind.

And "hoarding" implies that the individual has some obligation to sacrifice his own health and safety for the benefit of others who failed to prepare for emergencies. I don't.

Sorry, Charlie, you've been told to prepare since you were born, and if you didn't you get to suffer the consequences, not steal someone else's stuff.

Against trolls, absolutely.

But no, your logic fails yet again. My MO is to hit back at those who attack me first.
