California is a strange place. Highest taxed state in the country, highest poverty rate, 4th highest cost of living, absurd housing prices, and the 5th or 6th largest world economy. They're losing their middle class at an alarming rate, but they've got the largest number of illegal immigrants and also billionaires. But they've got good weather, beaches, and snow skiing.

Compare that to Florida. No state income tax, fastest growing state, low cost of living, cheap housing, great weather, and lots of beaches (we're the only state with both Atlantic and Gulf coasts). We may not have snow skiing but we got guns, snakes, no-see-ums, and alligators.

I'm stayin' right here and cranking my Skynyrd. Yee Haw y'all.

What the actual fucking fuck? Now I know the established view is that those with nothing to hide have nothing to fear, and that the people who propose that will be the first to mansplain exactly why it was reasonable of the police to make those kinds of assumptions and take those kinds of actions (perhaps pausing only to note that the language was poorly chosen), but really...? America may have a Black problem, but that problem is white people - particularly white authority - and their perception of Black people, all people of colour really, as dangerous and erratic non-conformers who require rough treatment to keep them in their place - even pregnant mothers and children.

Then again, if only the child had been armed...

It's vitally important to be able to defend yourself. It depends on the definitions of 'defend' and 'yourself' how you go about that.

'Dallas Federal Building Shooter Posted Far-Right Memes About Nazis and Confederacy'

A Texas man accused of opening fire outside a Dallas courthouse uploaded right-wing memes to Facebook, including memes about Nazism and the Confederacy.

Authorities said Brian Clyde, 22, attacked the Earle Cabell federal courthouse Monday morning before law enforcement killed him. No one else was reported injured. A Dallas Morning News photograph of Clyde shows him holding a semi-automatic rifle and wearing a belt full of ammunition. He appears to have uploaded to his Facebook page a picture of similar magazines on Saturday. Elsewhere on the page, he shared memes, some of which suggested racist or misogynist views.

Authorities did not offer a possible motive for Clyde’s rampage and declined to comment on his social media presence.
