Only in America? https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2018/12/t ... tions-nrc/
In Netherlands, one out of every nine defendants may have been wrongfully convicted: https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2016/11/o ... -research/
Arnhem murder case reopened - 9 men possibly wrongfully convicted -- https://nltimes.nl/2018/09/18/arnhem-mu ... -convicted
https://scholarship.law.uc.edu/cgi/view ... ntext=uclrEven in the United States,
where there is a relatively large body of research on the issue (in the
Netherlands there is practically none), widely differing estimates
circulate and almost all data concern wrongful convictions for serious
offences such as murder and rape.
The Dutch are like our Dutchy - head in the sand is the order of the day.
https://scholarship.law.uc.edu/cgi/view ... ntext=uclrLooking specifically to the Netherlands, it is clear that wrongful
convictions occur and that there have been a number of highly
publicized exonerations by the courts in the past decade—all involving
murder cases.11 But it is also clear that there are wrongful convictions in
other types of cases too.
But yeah, this must be an issue peculiar to the US, and if anything it's definitely worse in the US.
