an interesting statistic would be to know out of x incidents involving human death how many of those deaths were due to LEO using the means of killing at their disposal vs the number of cases where it was a civilian killing people... we might want to exclude mass shootings where the shooter(s) commit suicide or get shot down by the police rather than let themselves get caught...

But self defence IS something I occasionally have to think about first. Never bring firearms for that, aside from bear and grouse control, I mean.

I also think it misses the point...you live where guns are not the preferred intervention. In fact, you kind of have it nice, there are servants around to take care of the gun violence so YOU don't have to.

Lots of different kinds of neighbourhoods in the US, so lots of different kinds of support available, enforcement-wise.

Some people genuinely feel safer learning and owning firearms. They are often correct, for their situation.
