Yeah, only if they can do it while still somehow retaining rules of engagement that state that their soldiers must, under no circumstances, be put in harms way. You know, like in Afghanistan.....

Actually, in retrospect it might not have been such a good idea to cross La Manche and take over that green and pleasant land.Gawdzilla wrote:The French will be celebrating the successful invasion of England.

England might have remained somewhat backward if it had remained relatively isolated from continental affairs. Just a thought.

a) They weren't French. They were Normans (an off shoot of Norse men.)Gawdzilla wrote:The French will be celebrating the successful invasion of England.
b) How come we don't speak French? (apart from some rubbish words like Church.)

Ah, kerching......
In my defence, I had to get up at 4am this morning, then drive 200 miles and do a full days work. And I've got a rotten cold and this underwear is too tight and you should have said "anniversary of" and the Normans were vikings anyway and so on and so forth.

So they weren't Gauls. A few hundred years in France and they were certainly faggy enough.AshtonBlack wrote:a) They weren't French. They were Normans (an off shoot of Norse men.)Gawdzilla wrote:The French will be celebrating the successful invasion of England.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Probably the same places John Paul Jones burned a few decades earlier? Channel coast towns, IIRC.Clinton Huxley wrote:Now, what was it that got burned to fag ash in 1814, it's on the tip of my tongue......
