Five Most Important Events/Occurrences in History...

Post by Coito ergo sum » Tue Mar 30, 2010 4:16 pm

Certain historical times or events demonstrably changed the world more than others. Certain events seem to be key to how the world became like it is, and how human society developed. (not referring to inventions or people per se, but rather events, happenings, etc)

My list of the five most important events in history (not in any order):

1066- Battle of Hastings

Around 203BC-ish - Rome defeating Carthage in Second Punic War.

1492 - Columbus's voyages to the New World

44 BC - assassination of Julius Caesar

490 BC - Battle of Marathon

I like this one a lot. That single, risky, decision involving only a few thousands of soldiers, may have won the war, and failure to make that decision looks very likely as if it would have lost it.
