I suspect Seth would regard a tribe working together to bring an Elk back to the cave as somewhat too socialist for his tastes.

Yeah those cavemen they depict are action cavemen, metropolitan cavemen were much more about the grooming and hair product.

Techincally, I suppose. Usually we call them neanderthal, the common supposition that we wiped them out is in error. They died out, starved, looking fantastic in their size zero loincloths but unable to hunt even an apple.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Metrocavical?Audley Strange wrote:Yeah those cavemen they depict are action cavemen, metropolitan cavemen were much more about the grooming and hair product.

But, your question was why they were depicted as being dirty. That doesn't mean they're dirtier than they have to be, just that they've dirt on them. It doesn't seem all that odd to depict them with some dirt on them. On a given day they're outdoors, hunting, working, foraging, digging -- stuff that gets you dirty. My complexion and/or level of dirtiness really doesn't have much to do with it.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:They weren't lily white and shit, like you, but they didn't get any dirtier than they needed to be, and they got clean whenever they could. Really? That video I posted shows a person with salt caked on them. That will cause sores very quickly. A stupid caveperson would leave it there. Not unless they had taken slaves and forced them to do the carrying. Voluntary cooperation is what Libertarianism is all about. I imagine that if a caveman didn't feel like helping with the hunt or the carrying he'd be left alone, but wouldn't get a share of the meat. Likewise, if a caveman wanted to take off and live on his own, or with another group, the tribe wouldn't force him to stay just to keep his work ability in the tribe.Jesus_of_Nazareth wrote:I suspect Seth would regard a tribe working together to bring an Elk back to the cave as somewhat too socialist for his tastes.
Native Americans, specifically the Lakota, were quite Libertarian in their cultural practices. If the tribe wanted to go to war, and you didn't want to go with them, you didn't have to do so, and the tribe respected your right to make that decision for yourself.

The "vote with your feet" principle is common to hunter-gatherer societies. Nobody in the group wields enough power or controls enough resources to force a person to stay.Seth wrote:Not unless they had taken slaves and forced them to do the carrying. Social ties are very strong, though. Humans are gregarious animals, and social connections are vital. It would be a very rare tribesman willing to walk away. Especially since the next tribe is likely to be hostile and regard the stranger as dinner.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

History would not agree with you there.Svartalf wrote: Soap = animal fat + vegetable ash... easy to obtain after mastery of fire.
For example : the old time Romans did not have soap, in spite of having fire and a lot of very sophisticated stuff. They used to use human urine to wash clothes with (urine contains ammonia, which has a cleaning action).
