Google wasn't very helpful on that one. :lay:

It suggests that someone is (for some reason) trying to stop the troops from going AWOL. :dono:

Stopping the troops from running off while their equipment (no, not that equipment) is inspected post-combat? Checking their guns or ammo? :banghead:

Stopping POWs from running off? Using their trousers as makeshift shackles?

3. HANDLING OF PRISONERS OF WAR.

b. Prisoners will be escorted by capturing unit. Only such guards as are necessary will be employed. Guards, when practical, will march on a flank of the prisoner column. If a large group of prisoners are being held by a small guard and there is danger of escape, the prisoners will be ordered to unbutton their trousers and let them fall around their feet. Then have them hold their hands over their heads.

Bastard. I was thinking to myself a while ago "... this could be to do with POW's".

It was seldom spoken of on either side as it was very undignified and photographing it would have caused repercussions against our own POWs held by the enemy. The censors won that round.

:woot: :woot: :woot:

I never thought I would ever win a round in this game! I have been watching it for weeks but I am just not that knowledgeable on the subject of History - especially military history (as it seems to always be!) I have a question in mind but I need to google a bit myself first to make sure I am right (I have heard tell of pedantry here!)

To be honest, as soon as I saw the question I thought of POWs. And then the forum locked up on me as I clicked next page - I was sitting here screaming, "Don't let anyone else have got it!" to the FSM as I waited for the last page to show!

Yes, I can see why. No surprise either that it's associated with Patton.

Anyway, XC is up next ... :coffee:

Upon which ship did a wardroom dance in 1928 lead to courts martial, questions in the House of Commons and even raise the eyebrows of the King?

HMS Royal Oak.

I only know this because my eponymous local pub has a newspaper clipping on the wall about it!
