Probably controlled the diving planes. You're only getting a small part of the control room there.
If you want to see what
a USN control room doesn't look like, watch "Hunt for Red October." The Navy cooperated in that film on the condition that they could make changes as "appropriate" to the interior shots of the subs. The set designers said they knew when they got something right because the sewer pipe sailors would step in and ask that it be changed.
You're wrong!

That film was genuine down to the Russian accents.
Odd, I didn't know Russians had Scot accents.

".. shail into hishtory". Yes, very Russian accent by Sean Connery alright.

Boy, you'd better not miss that green to the left.
Believe it or not, there's at least one real-world course even more dangerous than that.

Believe it or not, there's at least one real-world course even more dangerous than that.
The gold course at Sigonella, Sicily, is strewn with WWII German munitions. Some bloody berk of an SAS man snuck in there just before Operation Husky and blew up the ammo dump, leaving unexpended ordnance lying about just waiting for a divot.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Play the course as you find it.
Some courses have interesting local rules about what to do if your ball comes to rest on/near something nasty, like a crocodile (shoot first,
then play). But I digress ...
