Assuming that the Luftwaffe had not stopped bombing the fighter bases after only a short while, giving us time to repair them and not switched to the futile waste that was "The blitz" then perhaps the invasion would "happen" but I doubt very much that it would have succeeded in the medium to long term. The British people can be vicious bastards, and you can make a safe bet the attrition rate on any occupying force would be great. We would not have surrendered unlike some nations we could mention. (Yes I'm looking at you, France.)
