The Last Days of the British Aristocracy

Post by cronus » Wed Dec 10, 2014 5:28 pm

Imagine the last days of the British Aristocracy started today?

The Queen abdicates and gives Charles the special pen of state..crown..etc

What form would the last days take in your imagination?

Maybe by throwing enough imagination at this would hint at the reality?
What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

"Aristocracy" does not mean the same as "Monarchy". In fact, in its original coining, in ancient Greece, it was a direct alternative to it! It literally means "Rule by the best" and (originally) meant that a state was to be ruled by a "Ruling elite" comprised of the wise and able, instead of by a single individual - ie. a monarchy.

These days, it has come to be synonymous with monarchy and the antonym of democracy.

If anything though, the passing of the monarchy in the UK would make us more of an aristocracy. The ruling elite being no longer the upper-classes, but rather the cadre of career politicos and spin-doctors that infest our politics like lice.
