One of Ridley Scott's better late-period films, I think. I found it emotionally enriching up to the end when

Re: String theory is what?

If you think pair production has been explained by QED, repeat that explanation. You'll find you can't. Like I said previously QED is a strong theory, but it lacks a description of the underlying reality. Pair production is merely the result of the decay of a photon. When a photon of the proper ene...

Re: Time Explained

Come on Nautilidae, think it through, it's simple. The photon in the mirror-box is legit. Read Einstein's 1905 paper on how a body that emits radiation loses mass. Let that photon out of that mirror-box, and the system loses mass. So what happens in electron/positron annihilation? You've let two ph...

Re: String theory is what?

It's not that he won't see your side of the issue. You simply haven't provided any strong arguments. Why should we agree with you if you cannot provide strong arguments for your idea? Because the evidence is strong. In pair production we typically create an electron and a positron from a +1022keV p...

It's reversed; it's traveling at c because is has no mass.

Re: So.... Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

I watched "World's Greatest Dad" last night. Although it is a dark comedy, I thought that it was very good. Robin Williams plays his role excellently.

Re: Time Explained

Sigh. A photon is just a photon. It gets emitted. Then It travels through space at c. Then something gets in its way, and it gets absorbed. These events don't happen all at once, despite the apparent infinite time dilation in the photon frame . Because time is an emergent property of motion, that's...

Re: String theory is what?

lpetrich: the extra mass of that box is due to the photon's energy/momentum content, which is trapped in the box. The photon is still moving at c, but back and forth, so it isn't going anywhere, so on aggregate its motion is zero. That's why the momentum now appears as inertia. And it's the same af...

Yes, I like the Manned Cloud concept too. The idea of living in the sky in a floating community reminds me that floating city ship, The World ... and it looks like a giant white whale. The Rediscovery concept looks as if it's a giant white ray. Soon, we may have a sky filled with aircraft resemblin...

Re: Speed of Light and Energy...?

Let me see if I can't work out the kinks here: Firstly, as has been elucidated already, time dilation is experimentally confirmed. This is due to relativistic effects warping the fabric of spacetime when in motion. In the caesium clocks experiment, it isn't that the clock ticks slower, although tha...
