Re: Christianity - A respectful dialogue

Yes of course the "God is a Sock Puppet" study.. it's pretty amusing really I wonder if that study, combined with one generation teaching the next, could be extrapolated to hypothesize some sort of feedback loop that drives individual sects within a religion towards either tolerance or fundamentali...

Re: Apology from Richard Dawkins (Yes Really).

Richard wouldn't do that. He's too fearful/paranoid/protective/prudent of dear RDFRS to endorse publicly a place where people have bondage and visible bumcracks in their avatars, and people talk about other members saving RD.net with a blowjob. You forget that not everyone wants to see images of bo...

Re: Apology from Richard Dawkins (Yes Really).

PZ Myers - what's the betting that he was tipped off this, not that there's anything sinister in that: http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2010/02/i_hope_this_resolves_the_whole.php When pz was posting here, he told us that he would have a word with Richard about keeping the forum available as an ar...

Actually, I made his avatar, so I just might.
As long as you don't ask me "what was your username again", I'll sneak away.

Re: Apology from Richard Dawkins (Yes Really).

I don't want to nitpick, but I can see one obvious issue with the statement, namely that RD knows that the offending comments were from elsewhere after the event. So we still don't have any justification that I can see for the initial lock-down, since no evidence has been provided of any offending ...

Re: Apology from Richard Dawkins (Yes Really).

For me, this goes a long way towards making amends for the PR disaster the the closing of the forums was. If he's only taken the time to make an eloquent statement similar to that before the fact, instead of leaving it to a tech not trained in dealing with people, the whole thing would have been so ...

Re: News coverage

My own take on the "lock down" was simply that the entire mod staff quit in protest at their treatment; immediatly a handful of people posted things like, "so can we say felch and cunt now?," knowing that there would be no reprimand from mods; the Admins knew that leaving the forum editable for ano...

Re: Please help: original sources needed, and knowledge

Especially: Ophelia Benson is repeatedly complaining of a great deal of insulting flames directed at her in comments on article pieces. When I look through all those, it seems mild. Is there more? Have a great many flames against Ophelia Benson been deleted in the past? I've only ever seen Ophelia ...
