Re: Apology from Richard Dawkins (Yes Really).
My understanding, from the initial announcement of the decision to close the old forums, was so that we wouldn't have to wade through hundreds of Atheism is a religion , or Evolushun is teh work ob da debbil! type threads. My understanding was also that it would make it easier to direct answers to t...

Re: "Climate Change - Doubts, Denials, Scepticism, and Politics"
I have attended some conferences in Palo Alto that lead me to believe that by the 2020s (2021-2030) we will have the technology to reverse most AGW, and to develop climate controls that can do things like dissipate hurricanes, or prevent hail storms. All of the proposals had some impressive math to ...

Re: Announcement about RDF Part 3.
My impression on the letter, was that Richard was not necessarily referring to himself as the object of the quotes, nor was he saying that they had occurred on his own website.
But, admittedly, this is from the perspective of being a little late to the party.

OK, so what I get is that people were caught flatfooted by the admins, and then felt that the Admins behaved in a disreputable manner. If this is the case, then it will eventually be discovered one way or another. As for all else.... I can understand how feelings have been hurt, and that sucks big t...

I hate to be the man out here, but I think that there may have been an overreaction to what has taken place at the RDF.
Doesn't anyone think that maybe we should give the new discussion area/forum/whateverit'sgonnabe a chance before we condemn the place?

Re: If the offender(s) quit & RDF forums restored to normalcy...
I left after the first schism, and since then I have only gone there to ask some questions regarding science, and reading some fundie-nuking threads. I also lurked occasionally, so if it got back up I'd probably still use it for that. I'm assuming there's not as much science and fundie nuking here,...

Re: If the offender(s) quit & RDF forums restored to normalcy...
I would return even if the Offenders did not quit. I would expect a lot of explanations about things. However, at this point, anything that can be said or done is going to be seen as a retreat by fundamentalists opposed to the RDF, as is most of the behavior of the members surrounding the incident. ...

Well, with new Liquid Thorium reactors, it very well could. One reactor on every block and you'd have enough power for everyone and then some.Clinton Huxley wrote:I always liked the one predicting that nuclear power would provide electricity "too cheap to meter".

Re: "Privatizing" the space industry. Yea or nay?
How do they put private satellites up there, just out of interest? Most of them go up on government boosters. They're working on getting private enterprise involved in that. There are three launch entities one can buy a launch from, NASA, the Chinese Space Agency, and the French agency that flies A...

Re: "Privatizing" the space industry. Yea or nay?
Yea. Private enterprise works better and is willing to take more risks. We won't be able to say who does what up there as well as we could when the government controlled it. Nay. Government programs are less willing to risk human lives in the effort. We won't be able to say who does what up there a...

The charitable status excuse WAS bullshit, I had from a reliable source. I think the 'charitable status' pretext was part of the real reason underlying those actions.
